1)
As far as behaviors that I have used or developed;
I would have to say that for all my academia I have been an above average grade
earner. I use my internal fortitude to
constantly strive towards the prize, which in this case is to graduate with
honors. There have been times that I
have not achieved the grade I would have liked on an assignment, but internally
I know it was not for lack of trying. So
personal self-motivation is the behavior that has assisted me the most.
2)
Well when we started the semester I was warned
of the amount of tedious work that was required for this class; however, I did
not understand what was meant. Now here
we are at the halfway point, and I can safely say there have been a few times
that I have said to my wife “I am not going to bother with this assignment or
that assignment.” Luckily for me, my
spouse is very supportive, and she reminded me that I don’t give up on
anything. Also, from my line of work, we
don’t get to pick and chose how or if we respond to assignment or meet a
deadline. The work must get done, and we
must move forward. As most of you will learn,
not turning in the assignment is not an option in the workforce. If you don’t do it, someone else will and you
may find yourself without employment.

Here are my three tips. 1) Don’t settle – Dr.
Pryor stated earlier in the semester that we can just add up our points and
determine what grade we want to receive.
Nothing wrong with that capability; however, most people will sell themselves
short. Remember to shoot for the stars
and you may land on the moon. In other
words, do not accept a lower grade if you can work for a better grade. 2) Keep
your eyes on the prize – that is set a goal.
I know it is hard to obtain a certain grade, or a degree, but set the
goal and stick with it. Slow and steady
generally does win the race. I set a
goal in 1998 to obtain a bachelor’s degree with honors. Here it is twenty years later, and I am so
close to finishing the race. 3) Don’t wait until it is to late. Most of the assignments in this class take
several days to work around other people.
I have found for me that I can review the assignments about a week or so
in advance. I then formulate a game plan
on how best to complete the assignment. Although
I don’t finish the assignment generally until about a day or so in
advance. You can’t wait to the last
minute on most of the assignments that we have done until this point in the
class.

Wow, Dan, you are more of an overachiever than me! I have never had the goal of graduating (college) with honors, but that's probably because all my dreams were dashed when I tried majoring in Engineering for my first two semesters here... but I digress. I like your encouraging and detailed tips. You focus on mindset more than a checklist of actions; this is appropriate considering how vital mindsets are to entrepreneurial spirit. -April
