The Wright Brothers

For this exercise, I read “The Wright Brothers” by David McCullough.
1.  see below
A.      I did not know that either of the Wright Brothers were involved in an aviation accident where someone died
B.      Well since there were two brothers, not just one.  I would say that they possessed a tenacious attitude towards their work
C.       From the perspective in which the book was written, it seemed that the brothers assumed most people were trustworthy
D.      They did encounter numerous failure and had to overcome loads of adversity.  For their failures, they just worked harder to make their Flyer work.  They overcame the adversity in much the same way as their failure.  Which was work hard and let their invention speak for itself

2.  Ingenuity, veracity, hard-working, honorable, well-spoken
3. The last chapter of the book was confusing.  I thought it was poorly written and it did not do a very good job of summing up their accomplishments.
4. What caused you to want to write the Smithsonian Institute?  Also, how did you figure out wing warping from watching birds?
5. I think that the Wright Brothers only knew one kind of work, hard.  According to the text they worked long days everyday except Sunday.  They did not appear to take many breaks.  I also found it fascinating that they journaled a lot of what they did. I believe in arduous work; however, I do not think that my interpretation would be that of the Wright Brothers.

  1. Seems like you got a lot out of this reading. I love the Wright brothers ideology. Hard work, drive and determination to grow and complete the best, most efficient traveling mechanism ever created. I love the story behind it. I can relate to overcoming adversity and challenges in my life to succeed and work hard. I do believe that the end of the book was not good.

  2. Awesome analysis, Dan. I think this book ties really well into this week's lessons and discussions as it shows how the Wright brothers had to deal with failure, and almost death, in the pursuit of their dream. Yet they stuck to it, and I think that serves as an inspiration to anyone trying to achieve a lofty goal.

  3. Hey Dan, I always thought the Wright Brothers were such an interesting topic. Being able to fly is such a crazy possibility. It looks like the Wright Brothers were such a great influence in the areas of perseverance and determination. It sounds like they refused to take no for an answer. Their hard work ultimately got them their name recognition.

  4. Hello Dan, I wrote on the Wright Brothers for the first reading reflection, hearing so much about them in elementary school made me curious, plus it it was the shorter book out of the two I was choosing between. I do agree the Wright Brothers believed in working hard continuously. And now that you mention it the ending does seem a bit rushed and lacking compared to the rest of the book.
